These can be the first signs of a periodontal disorder.\u00a0<strong>Periodontitis is the main cause of tooth loss in adult age.\u00a0<\/strong><\/p>\n<p>Periodontitis &#8211; previously known as parodontosis &#8211; is a chronic bacterial inflammation of the periodontal apparatus. The alveolar bone regresses, the gingival pockets become deeper, the tooth root finds overall less support, the teeth become loose.\u00a0 In extreme cases, loss of teeth can be imminent.<\/p>\n<p>Besides damaging the oral and dental health, <strong>a periodontitis that is left unchecked can contribute to various systemic disorders<\/strong>.<\/p>\n<p>Periodontitis is a risk factor for respiratory diseases, cardiovascular disorders and diabetes mellitus. For pregnant women, the risk of premature birth increases. Other possible systemic diseases connected to parodontitis are discussed among experts.
